Jason Scott Lee is developing Ulua Theatre as a bridge between arts and agriculture. At Pu Mu, conservation, fishing, farming, and reforestation is emphasized as well as the arts, to blend the aspects of conscious living, food as medicine, and the observation of nature in order to provide inspiration, education, and healing.

Directions to Ulua Theatre

On highway 11 near Volcanoes National Park - between the 26 & 27 mile markers, turn into Volcano Village on Haunani Rd.

Follow Haunani road all the way to the end (it is a long, straight, paved road).

Just before you reach the end of the road you'll see a large red wooden gate on your left.

Go through the gate & follow the gravel driveway toward the right, which will lead you directly to the Ulua Theatre.

The Founder and Resident Artist at Pu Mu: Jason Scott Lee

Jason Scott Lee was born of third generation Hawaiian/Chinese ancestry in Los Angeles. Raised from the age of two on the island of Oahu, his first interest in performing came from his participation in athletics and ocean sport activities.

At nineteen, his fascination with acting took its stronghold when he left Oahu and attended Fullerton Junior College in California; here he met with encouragement from teacher/mentor Sal Romeo.

Without completing a degree, Jason left the academic environment to be involved in Sal Romeo's "Friends and Artists Theatre Ensemble" (F.A.T.E.) in Hollywood. This tiny fifty-seat black box theatre became Jason's sanctuary for exploring and focusing his craft in acting.

He supported himself with jobs waiting and bussing tables, gardening, house cleaning, steam-cleaning kitchens, cleaning lobster tanks, delivering fruit-baskets and Ikebana flower arrangement to name a few. This left him time to land smaller roles in film and TV while continuing to do stage plays at F.A.T.E.

His first big break came with landing the role of "Avik" in Map of the Human Heart at age 25, followed a year later with Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. Rapa Nui and Jungle Book came soon afterward, creating the beginning of an 18 year career thus far.

His more recent roles have been in London's West End Stage production of The King and I as the "King of Siam," as "David" in Disney's Lilo and Stitch, and as "Oraz" in Milos Forman's soon-to-be- released epic, Nomad.

Hoku Award Winners SUGahDADDY at Ulua June 23-24

"SUGahDADDY," winners of the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Rock Album of the Year in Hawai'i 2005, will perform at Ulua Theatre on June 23 and 24.

"Suffereignty" follows the examples set by Henry Kapono Kaaihue's 1993 masterpiece "KAPONO" and Peter Apo's 1990 compilation "Hawaiian Nation: A Call for Sovereignty" in demonstrating the power of music as a means of political education.
